The UX Specialist/Front-End Developer is responsible for creating and improving the user experience of digital products and applications for the bureau of vital statistics in the NYC Department of Health. This role requires a deep understanding of user behavior, strong analytical skills, and the ability to design and prototype user interfaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Learn and master a highly complex existing portfolio of applications that service the end-to-end process for vital statistics in New York City
Stay constantly in touch with team members and project leaders: daily check-in/checkout, technical discussions over slack, and active over email.
Create user personas, user journey maps, and other artifacts to document user insights and design requirements.
Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that meet user needs and business objectives.
Work collaboratively with development teams, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure that designs are feasible, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
Implement front-end designs in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
Conduct manual testing efforts across new and existing features to find defects and opportunities for improvement
Be online and available every weekday during core hours of 10am through 4pm.
Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends, tools, and techniques, and continuously improve design processes and methodologies.
Qualifications:
At least 3+ years of experience in User Experience/User Interface design and/or front-end web development.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in fluent English
Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
Experience conducting user research, creating user personas, and developing user journey maps.
Proficiency in Figma design tools (Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, or other may be acceptable depending on level of expertise)
Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
Understanding of front-end development technologies, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Experience with usability testing and other evaluation methods.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate design concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with developers, project managers, and business owners.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies is a plus.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in technology, design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or a related field.
