ESB Engineer

The Enterprise Application & Architecture Operational Support Project aims to modernize and transform the DOE’s technology systems to better support its mission of delivering equity and excellence in education. The project’s primary purpose is to improve the efficiency, scalability, security, and sustainability of DOE’s enterprise applications and supporting architecture. By doing so, it ensures that technology can effectively meet the evolving needs of DOE’s vast network of schools, educators, students, and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The DevOps Engineer builds and maintains the tools and infrastructure needed for smooth development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • They work closely with development teams to ensure fast and reliable software deployment while maintaining high performance and availability.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of proven experience with DevOps practices, automation, and tools, focusing on CI/CD, infrastructure as code (IaC), and cloud services.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and managing cloud-based infrastructure for scalability and security.
  • Proficiency with tools like Jenkins, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Python to automate workflows and deployment.
  •  Ability to work with developers, QA engineers, and operations teams for smooth software delivery.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana) to ensure high performance and resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and ensuring DevOps pipelines follow security policies and regulations.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting deployment issues, system bottlenecks, and scaling challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience in managing cloud-based infrastructure for scalability, performance, and security.
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages such as Jenkins, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Python, to automate workflows, infrastructure provisioning, and deployment pipelines.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams, including developers, QA engineers, and operations, to ensure smooth integration and delivery of software releases.
  • Experience in setting up and managing monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) to ensure high application performance and proactive issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-based applications, ensuring that DevOps pipelines comply with security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving deployment issues, system bottlenecks, and scaling challenges in production environments.
  • Must hold at list one of the certifications: MuleSoft Certified Developer, IBM Integration Bus Certified, or other relevant certifications
  • Technologies: MuleSoft, Apache Camel, WSO2, IBM Integration Bus, SOAP, REST, JMS, API Management tools, Python, Groovy, Shell Scripting Jira, Git, Jenkins, Splunk, or equivalent monitoring and version control tools
